Concerns & Solutions

Current Issues with Patio and Bar Licenses

Unit

There is currently an application before the AGCO for a license for a new bar called Unit at 1198 Queen Street West. The QBRA is concerned at the concentration of bars in this area (five new bars opening in under two years in a short four-block stretch of Queen Street), and would like Unit to open as a restaurant or cafe, closing at ten or eleven o'clock at night. The AGCO can be contacted at licensing@agco.on.ca. If you feel strongly about this matter (or others), you should also send a letter to our Councillor, Adam Giambrone, at councillor_giambrone@toronto.ca, and copy the group at info@queenbeaconsfield.com.

Update: It seems the AGCO has approved this licence with almost no restrictions (see QBRA News & Updates for 28 September for details). The AGCO is a provincial body; if you are concerned about this licence, contact MPP Tony Ruprecht at truprecht.mpp@liberal.ola.org

The Beaconsfield

We are happy to report that the QBRA and the owners of the Beaconsfield worked together to come up with a compromise that everyone is happy with, and their patio will be opening shortly. Click here for a brief history of our negotiations with the Beaconsfield
